HTC One Max with 5.9-inch display and fingerprint scanner officially announced

After a lot of rumors and conjectures and HTC’s teasing infographics, the Taiwanese company moments ago officially announced the One Max. The Android phablet will be available later this month, though the exact dates or price are yet to be revealed.

In terms of specifications and features, much of everything that leaked in the past month or two was pretty much right on the money. Design-wise the One Max carries forward the all-aluminum design earlier seen on the One and the One mini, albeit with a removable back panel.

The phablet flaunts a massive 5.9-inch Super LCD3 (1920×1080 pixels) display cramming in 373ppi, which makes it larger than the already massive Samsung Galaxy Note 3. As we reported before, the One Max is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 SoC clocked at 1.7GHz and supplemented with Adreno 320 GPU and 2GB of RAM.

Other features included are 4-megapixel UltraPixel camera with f/2.0 aperture, 28mm lens, no OIS, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 16/32GB of internal storage that can be expanded using a microSD card, a 3,300mAh battery and BoomSound stereo speakers, but without Beats Audio. On the software front, the phablet runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean wrapped under a brand new Sense 5.5 (just as we had expected!).

Another notable feature on the One Max is a fingerprint scanner on the rear of the device. It functions similar to the one on the Apple iPhone 5s, in letting the user unlock the device or launch apps directly.

As mentioned above, there is no word on when this phablet would arrive in India, and in terms of pricing we expect it to be on the premium side.
